about

I wrote this song in August 2013 while I was on my brother's bachelor party in Costa Rica. One of those nights, everyone went out and I decided to just stay in bed and listen to music. After I took my headphones off, music didn't stop playing in my head. The song playing in my head was Hollow. In a lot of ways I feel like I didn't write it. I feel like I was just the scribe making sure that it was recorded correctly.

I immediately recorded it when I got back home to Queens (along with the last two songs needed to complete my first solo record). I played all the instruments on the solo version, which was on the 'Grand Mal - EP' that came out later that year.

When I started the band, Cloud Tapes, the other guys said that we should throw in Hollow to the setlist. I agreed. After a while it became a staple in our setlists. It only felt right that we chose to re-record the song when my friend Joe Totino (and long-time recording collaborator) asked me and Sal to come to the studios at SAE to record a song for free. It was a no-brainer to just bang out Hollow, even if I sort of have a policy against re-recording songs. This one just felt natural to do. A little under 5 years later, and it's cool to have a higher quality reimagining of the original song. It hasn't changed much because it really didn't have to. Thanks for listening.

lyrics

Hollow
Filled-in empty spaces
Traveled many places
To find no one

Wallow
Bask in deprivation
Just a past sensation
That still rings true

Situational feeling that constantly lingers
The air is just so heavy, it's not getting any clearer
If its such a drag, then why are you still here?

Leaving
Searching for some purpose
And it's not on purpose
If I don't write home

Sleepless
Nights that I've wasted
Waiting for elation
That never comes

Situational feeling that constantly lingers
The air is just so heavy, it's not getting any clearer
If its such a drag, then why are you still here?

Farewell
It was fun while it lasted
My welcome, I surpassed it
I'm moving on
